Our Work in India

We are providing hope through daily care for widows and orphans in India.

Why support India?

With over 40 million widows and over 20 million orphans, we found a need to help in several rural areas.

Many communities in India still shun widows and they are abandoned by their families due to superstition. They are left feeling completely isolated and alone. Orphaned children are in dire need of care and protection, being among the most susceptible to poverty, child labour, and child trafficking.

We are also currently working on a new chicken coop to support widows and orphans!

Our support in India looks like:

80+

children are given love, care and essentials in the orphanages we partner with

47

widows are cared for in the rural areas of Bhubaneswar and Gajapati

The Widows in the Rural District of Gajapait

There is no industry in this area, so most men work as day laborers or herdsmen, making clay bricks or picking cashews. Having another person in a home to provide for is a huge challenge and an unwanted burden.

The Challenges

  • There is an overwhelming sense of hopelessness.

  • Health care is needed for the widows and their children.

  • Transportation is challenging.

  • There is no permanent shelter to protect them from the cyclones and monsoon seasons.

  • There are many financial challenges.

  • There is a lack of available social services.
