| What does it mean to be truly hopeless?
Imagine being a child whose parents can’t afford to send you to
school. Several generations in your family have been uneducated, preventing
them from getting good jobs, which would enable them to provide for their
family. Global Partners in Life wants to help.

Through many generous donations, we were able to
purchase new coats for the orphans we are supporting. Their grades range
from primary school to high school. |
While teaching in China during
the winter months, I saw needs the students had, but they could not
meet. Their dormitories, classrooms, and cafeterias were not heated;
it was so cold in the classroom I could see my breath. I would see
their hands turn purple, red, and blue as they took notes. Additionally,
I saw many of the students could not afford to take care of their
most basic needs.
When GPiL became aware of many orphans living in China, we wanted
to help. We learned that most of these orphans lived with family
members or neighbors. Clearly this put an additional financial burden
on the already poor farming families. These children need food,
money for school, school supplies, and clothes.

This is Dr. Li. He is the dentist that works with
our dental program. He gives us great service at a great price. |
Medical needs are universal but
the means with which to address them are not. While teaching in China,
I learned how many of the students that lived in rural villages had
never seen a dentist. There was an infirmary on campus, but they weren’t
funded to get all of the needed supplies. I learned of a clinic sponsored
by a local church; they also were lacking supplies, but wanted to
assist others.

This is Li Wei. His English name is Jackie. He received
a scholarship from GPiL. Jackie was abandoned by his father when he was
born. He was raised by his mother who had no access to higher education.
Jackie’s goal is to become a translator. |
Many poor parents in China will
not spend the money to keep their 7th or 8th grade daughter in school.
They know that in a few years their daughter will marry and become
someone else’s concern. Therefore, the girls do not get the
education or skills for a good job, and the cycle of poverty is perpetuated.
